BMW software update improves Digital Key and adds app-based Remote Control Parking
BMW has announced a software update for millions of eligible vehicles globally. The update includes new functions for the BMW Digital Key, which allows you to lock, unlock and
start your car via the My BMW app. Users can now share vehicle access between iPhone and Android smartphones. Plus, you can activate a Digital Key directly in the vehicle via an
activation code without needing the physical key.A Remote Control Parking function in the app will be available in some countries for specific models. This tool enables the driver
to park using their smartphone outside the vehicle. Parking manoeuvres on offer will be those previously recorded by the car and forward or backward moves within a 6 m (~20 ft)
radius. The new BMW software also lets AT&T customers in the US use a Personal eSIM, building into your existing contract and enabling 5G in the vehicle. The cellular
connectivity allows you to make calls and stream data without needing a smartphone in the car. Another feature in the update, specifically for the iX, is the ability to stop
charging and unlock the charging cable in the app.
The latest software is on offer to those with the BMW iDrive Operating System 7 and 8, which the company estimates to be
around 4.7 million vehicles. The free upgrade is already available to over 30 models and can be downloaded in the vehicle’s settings menu under Remote Software Upgrade.Polly
